How Bad is the Drought?

Although we've gotten some rain this past week, I've had a number of people ask me how bad the drought really is here in the Carolinas. Last weekend, our kids were invited to a birthday party at the lake. This particular house is located on a cove on Lake Wylie - which sits on the NC/SC border and is part of the 11 reservoir Catawba River chain.

I took the following shot while STANDING next to Jim's dock.

The grass you see shouldn't be there since that area is normally covered by water. As of right now, you can walk across the cove. As a matter of fact, the best bream fishing is normally between the floating dock and the fixed dock (now dry land), where the bream create their beds.

NASCAR Fans a Health Risk?

I guess so, especially if the government says so!!

Check this story out.

Getting a hepatitis shot is standard procedure for travelers to parts of Africa and Asia, but some congressional aides were instructed to get immunized before going to Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord and the racetrack in Talladega, Ala.

The House Homeland Security Committee planned a fact-finding trip about public health preparedness at mass gatherings and decided to conduct the research at two of the nation's most heavily attended sporting events, NASCAR's Bank of America 500 event this weekend and the UAW-Ford 500 last weekend.

Staff who organized the trips advised the NASCAR-bound aides to get a range of vaccines before attending -- hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria and influenza.
But Lowe's responded nicely:
Lauri Wilks, vice president of communications for Speedway Motorsports, which owns Lowe's Motor Speedway and other tracks, said Wednesday that immunizations aren't needed for the race.

"There's no health risk that we know of," she said, laughing. "We have never had any disease outbreak during one of our weekends."
I've been to NASCAR races. I believe the only risks you run are from second-hand smoke and perhaps, second-hand drunkeness (especially the way the fans drink!).

Tears of the Saints

Yeah, yeah, I know. I've posted this before. I cleaned up a few things and improved the overall quality a little.

The other reason I reposted is because I have changed my mind about allowing this video to be embedded in other sites. So, if you've tried to embed it before and weren't allowed, try again.

Why did I change my mind? I know there are concerns about where the video might end up, what type of site it might get posted to, etc. But, I believe the most important thing is that someone might view it and recognize their need for Jesus. I am simply trusting God that it will be used to reach others for Him.

Peace.
