Cell Phone Etiquette

A recent LetsTalk survey found that American attitudes toward cell phone usage are still changing. Some of the most enlightening statistics:

The annual etiquette survey found that 63 percent of respondents believe it is generally acceptable to chat on a cell phone while in the car. Likewise, 66 percent of respondents gave the thumbs up to talk on the phone in the grocery store.

At the movies, in the bathroom and at a restaurant scored low on the survey, with only 2 percent of respondents supporting calls taken at the movies, 38 percent in the bathroom and 21 percent at a restaurant.
38 percent in the BATHROOM. Ewww...that's TMI for even me. Now I'll be wary of every cell conversation. I guess it kinda brings a whole new meaning to talking dirty.

Common Sense is so Rare These Days

Credit to Boortz for posting this earlier today, but he's already got new stuff up.

This letter is too good not to post in it's entirety. It was published on DelawareOnline which is the online site for The News Journal. Surprisingly this is from 17-year-old Bradley Lehman in Hockessin.

What leaders do on their own time is a private matter

Because I am 17 years old, some people might say that I am not mature enough to understand many issues. However, let me just say that I get more laughs reading the opinion page than I ever have from the comics.

Delawareans seem to be fixated on bashing President Bush and proposing new conspiracy theories whenever they seem convenient.

President Bush did not cause Hurricane Katrina or the complications afterwards. New Orleans was built below sea level so they should have seen it coming and made preparations themselves.

If Dick Cheney shoots someone by accident on his own time, it is none of your business and neither he nor the president has any obligation to tell you about it.

Finally, it seems unreasonable to me that Bush was able to graduate from Yale University, be elected governor of Texas, and earn the respect and confidence of enough of his peers in the Republican Party to be nominated as their presidential candidate if he is indeed as dim-witted as you say.

I am willing to wager that the majority of Delawareans who get their information from this sorry excuse for a newspaper have barely enough brainpower to govern their own lives, let alone governing a nation of almost 300 million.

Before you begin ranting, I would argue with Bradley that if one of our leaders is engaged in illegal activity a la Marion Barry from Washington, DC and his drug issues or perhaps even lying to a Grand Jury under oath then it is a problem.

But that's only one of his points. The rest are very valid. Why is it that everything that happens is George Bush's fault. I mean, if you want to blame someone for the New Orleans fiasco, blame the French. They were the ones to build the city there in the first place. Of course, it could be argued that perhaps we weren't too bright to buy the place from them later on. But that's a different argument.

Admittedly, Cheney accidentally shooting someone on a hunting trip is sad. But, unfortunately, that's a known risk if you have ever hunted. You do everything you can to be safe, but sometimes accidents happen.

It's just refreshing to see a young person that, seemingly, is capable of thinking on their own.

FairTax Poll and Comments

Please see the margin for my current poll.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I am a big supporter of The FairTax HR25.

I firmly believe that this is the only viable solution that has been put forth to solve our tax burden crisis. I also believe that many opponents are against HR25 simply because they do not understand the proposal and how it really will affect taxpayers. Unfortunately, most of the opponents have also depended on their elected leaders and the major media for information against HR25. Please, investigate the information below and then make up your own mind...don't just follow what your Representative tells you.

For information on the FairTax click HERE. Also, click HERE for a very detailed Q&A about the FairTax.

A BIG Mac Attack

As you know, I'm not a big fan of WinDOZE (well, actually Microsoft). Development seems to be fast and loose. WinDOZE is generally developed to the lowest possible user. When usability is the only concern, stability and security suffer. Microsoft seems more concerned with selling as much software as possible and fixing the holes later. Anyway, forget that tangent for now.

This seems to be the big news today. We've all heard how the Apple Mac is so much more stable, more secure, more advanced...basically, more anything. Please note as you read the story, it only took 30 minutes for this hacker to gain root level access in the latest version of Mac OS, Mac OS X. The hacker, asking only to be referred to as Gwerdna, stated:

"Mac OS X is easy pickings for bug finders," he told ZDNet. "That said, it doesn't have the market share to really interest most serious bug finders."
Oops! Gee, now that shouldn't have made it into the press. It'll be interesting to watch the news wires over the next few weeks to see if reports of Mac attacks or bugs increase. I'm betting that there will be some hackers that will test Gwerdna's claims.

Could the Apple finally be spoiling?
