Good Job Panthers...now GO STEELERS!

Unfortunately, the Panthers did not make it to the Super Bowl. They just didn't perform against the Seahawks like they had in previous games. Am I disappointed? Sure. Am I still proud? Absolutely! The Panthers gave their fans a GREAT season. Close games, pulling off key plays when they needed to and even filling gaps in the roster when necessary. Good job guys!

Now, as for the Super Bowl. All I can say is GO STEELERS!! You may ask, "What is a Southern boy doing pulling for the Steelers?" Good question. I've been a Steelers fan since the early 1970s. You know...the era of the "Steel Curtain", Jack Lambert, Jack Hamm, Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, Franco Harris...need I go on.

Anyway, although the Seahawks played a very strong game against the Panthers, I just don't see any team beating the Steelers. They've hit their stride at just the right moment in the season. But, as always, the big day will tell.

Got Jake?

Well, as the Bears painfully found out, although Jake Delhomme may not be the best quarterback in the NFL, he's got enough in his arsenal to make it this far. He doesn't make a lot of snap play changes at the line which, admittedly, can end up with some disastrous results. (Gotta work on that Jake..) But, Jake works perfectly in the Carolina offense where the coaching staff provides him with a lot of guidance on play calling based on the defensive formations they are seeing and which players are in the game. Is he flashy? No. Does he get the job done? Well enough to get this far.

The Seahawks will be the next test. I believe the Panthers can win. Some are saying that the home field advantage will benefit the Seahawks. I doubt it. The Panthers are in a road game mentality, so it's just another road game to them. The running game may be problematic with Davis AND Foster out. But, I believe Nick Goings is up to the challenge. He doesn't have the cutting ability, but he is a workhorse, no nonsense runner that can pound short yardage. With Brad Hoover there to give him a breather and provide some pass protection and the occasional run things should be ok.

Here's a good article from SI.com about the Panthers and their work ethic.
